Bespoke Design Case Study for Counselling Client

Michelle Shively Harris

On September 20, 2016 we completed a bespoke design project for this counselling client.

About the Client

Michelle Shively Harris is an experienced, Relate-trained BACP registered counsellor, and a member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists). She works in Huddersfield, within easy reach of the M62 and the Kirklees district.

Summary of Client Requirement

Michelle chose a Silver "Super Hero" design for her website, as she liked various websites which showed off a big banner image at the top of the page.

Design Considerations

Michelle selected some images she liked for the full-width banner image to go at the top of the website, but when these were adjusted to a suitable size none were really appropriate for this design format, as crucial parts of the various images were chopped off by the design elements. She particularly liked one of the images though, a black and white image of a feather, but this too proved tricky to present well in the Super Hero format. However, the Action Hero format did show of her favoured image to much better effect, so I suggested switching to this design instead so that the feather could be seen intact. Once the image and design was finalised, I was free to choose a fairly muted colour scheme based on Michelle's preference for purple, which didn't overpower the subtle feature image.

Client Testimonial

"Hi David, Just to say a big ‘thank you’ for your patience, support and sound advice regarding the design of my new website. As a complete novice at website design I really appreciated your clear explanations, step by step instructions and the fact that you patiently took on board all my requests. You made the whole process smooth, quick and pain-free and I’m delighted with the end result (not to mention the great value for money service you offer). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to others."

New Stuff

With the recent launch of Active Images, PHD Interactive have added a great facility to their website editor that we recommend clients make use of. It aids navigation and provides us designers with a great tool to engage visitors and encourage them to take a look at what's on offer... ideally resulting in an enquiry, subscription or some form of action. The website editor includes some free 'call to action' graphics (such as the one opposite) and we're also enjoying making custom graphics for our clients. Get in touch if you'd like us to make something for you.

Recent Client Work

“David made the whole process of upgrading my website to silver very easy to do. Since I have little technological ability he made the process easy to understand. The emails I received from him were prompt and courteous. I felt reassured that my business needs to promote my website were being handled in a professional manner. ” See full case study
